MEAG Power has assets of over $4.9 billion, co-owns four generating plants with a generating capacity of 1,566 megawatts, and co-owns Georgia's Integrated Transmission System (ITS). Additionally, in June 2004 commercial operation began on our solely owned natural gas-fired generator known as the Wansley Combined Cycle Facility with a generating capacity of 503 megawatts.
Beyond the primary business of generation and transmission, two business units of MEAG Power offer our member Participants and other clients services in support of retail operations and marketing. Distribution Services delivers services in technical assistance, training and safety, joint purchasing and web-based management applications. Marketing Services provides enhanced support in pricing strategies, existing industry initiatives, economic development assistance and major account programs.
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, MEAG Power employs approximately 160 people. The organization is governed by a nine-member board of directors comprised of representatives from the Participant communities. The organization was formed in 1975 when 50 year contracts were signed with its retail Participants. In 2004 these contracts were unanimously extended to 2054.
